Chiropractic manipulative therapy, also called the chiropractic adjustment, involves applying a specific, low amplitude, high velocity impulse to the vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or that fail to function normally. It is used to treat vertebral joint restrictions, increase range of motion, reduce nerve irritability and improve function. At the office, we offer the following techniques:
- Diversified- the most common technique for manual therapy used by most chiropractors
- Activator- a gentle, low force adjusting tool that can be used to patients of all types. Specifically, elderly, children, and those who do not prefer manual adjustments.
- Cox Flexion-Distraction- a highly effective technique used to decompress the vertebral disc and increase range of motion in the spine. Extensive studies show its effectiveness in treating bulging and herniated discs in the lumbar spine.
While chiropractic adjustments are appropriate for some conditions, they are not always necessary, which is why a wide variety of treatment options and education are provided.
